History

Habitat for Humanity is an interfaith (Christian) ministry based on Matthew 25, which was
started in 1976 by Millard Fuller. His mission was to help eliminate substandard housing
throughout the world by building simple, decent, affordable homes (and refurbishing existing
homes) using volunteers and carefully selected “partners” to create ownership between the
homeowner and community. Levels within the organization are: International, state, and
local/regional affiliates. There are more than 2,100 affiliates in all 50 states and territories, as
well as 100 foreign countries.
